The island of Cyprus is today occupied one-third by Turkey and is called the Republic of Northern Cyprus. But this claim is not seen by either other countries or by the United Nations. In 1974 there was a Turkish invasion and so the island was divided down the middle.

Of all the islands in the Mediterranean sea, this one is the hottest and the driest island.
